Educational Lessons from Nature: The Wisdom of Geese Regarding Teamwork

Teamwork - the wisdom of geese flying in a v-shape formation - moral stories and lessons from nature Looking around at the world around us, we can always learn something even in the most unlikely of places. From observing the behaviour of geese, there is much we can learn from these beautiful animals about how to work well as a team.

In the Spring, geese head North for the Summer, or South in the Fall, they can be seen flying in a “V” shaped formation in the sky. There’s a good reason why they fly in this V-shape. Biological studies tell us that as each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird immediately following.

Just from observing the flight of geese, here are some good teamwork-related morals and life lessons that can be gleaned:

Bird Behaviour & Moral #1
By flying in “V” formation, the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.
Related Moral: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.

Lesser Canada Geese in Flight - goose flying Poster - working well together as a team Bird Behaviour & Moral #2
Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front.
Related Moral: Sometimes, if we will stay in formation with those who are heading in the same direction as we are, it can make the journey easier.

Bird Behaviour & Moral #3
When the lead goose gets tired, he rotates back in the wing and another goose flies lead.
Related Moral: When you work in a team, you can take turns doing hard jobs, so teamwork can help alleviate the stress on you and help you reach your destination faster whilst retaining more of your energy.

Bird Behaviour & Moral #4
The geese at the back of the formation honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.
Related Moral: If we’re behind someone else, what we say or honk can make a difference to the whole team spirit, so it’s worth giving encouraging honks every now and then to optimize your team’s chance of success.

Stories with Morals: The Mayonnaise Jar and Two Cups of Coffee

The Mayonnaise Jar and Two Cups of Coffee Poster The Mayonnaise Jar and the 2 coffee cups:

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

Once he could no longer fit even one other golf ball into the jar, he asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of small pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. The sand fit within the gaps between the small pebbles. He asked once more if the jar was full.

The students responded with a unanimous “yes.”
The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee,

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

“Now,” said the professor, as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.”

The golf balls are the important things – God, family, children, health, friends, and Favorite passions; Things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and car.

The sand is everything else – the small stuff.

“If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

So…

* Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
* Spend time with your family
* Make time for date nights with your partner
* Play With your children.
* Look after your health
* Make time for the things you are passionate about
* There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal unit.
* Take care of the golf balls first — the things that really matter.
Set your priorities.
The rest is just sand.”

Mayonnaise Jar and Two Cups of Coffee Relax! Cute Kawaii Girl Relaxing with Tea Poster
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented.

“I’m glad you asked,” The professor smiled. “It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend.”

When things in your life seems almost too much to handle, when 24 Hours in a day is not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

SacconeJoly Music used in their youtube videos

Musical Star sacconejoly music used as background music in their videos Hey guys! One of the youtube channels I really enjoy watching is the SacconeJolys and I find that the creator behind it, Jonathan Saccone Joly picks some really great upbeat, uplifting, happy musical tracks but I couldn’t find any resource online where someone listed the names of the songs he uses, so I went on a mission to try and find out myself! After reading online that a lot of youtubers get their music on a website called “Audionetwork.com” (#not_a_spon/ not an affiliate), I had a browse on this website and found most of the songs Jonathan uses (as well as finding some songs that other youtubers use too). If you stick the title of the songs below into the audionetwork site’s search bar, the song should come up and you can listen to the whole song within their website. I’ve also added links to each song for a shortcut way to get to the specific song you’re after on their site.

So without further ado, below are the songs I’ve found so far that I’m pretty sure I’ve heard and loved on the SacconeJoly vlogs. (And yes, there are a lot more songs on this list than I thought there would be! He uses more than I realised!)

brooding, melancholic, Melancholy piano with male vocals.
Lyrics go: “Down go the sheets don’t have the answers, oh I’ve been looking for those bad boys since day one. • I want you in my dreams by Tom Rosenthal. Melancholy piano, melancholic male vocals.
Lyrics go: “Oh I ain’t seen nothing like this before in my life. Hold me close, I need you so, I want you in my dreams. You’ll see I’ve come a long way for you my love. You’lll see I’ve come a long with you my love.
  • Middle of my Mind by Tom Rosenthal. Delicate acoustic guitar & male vocals.
Lyrics go something like: “You were in the flow of things, and you know I was never.. somehow.. Windows in the sun I think I see… Light is on the run it’s going away.. • Oh Tonight by Tom Rosenthal
Upbeat uplifting folk with male vocals and nostalgic retro flute
Lyrics go: “Let’s run through the clouds to the sky, let’s go-ho-o-o-o-. We don’t know, if that’s far, … oh we’ve got time.. tonight. Oh Tonight. Dreams, let them come, let’s be one, let’s go…
  • Picture of a Century by Jonathan Lloyd – Fingerpicked guitar with nostalgic vocal & uplifting strings ending.
Lyrics go something like: “How those days they were fast and free
not a worry just you and me.
You could be where we wanted to be
Times they change but you stay the same
Down in the streetlight in the pouring rain
On a corner when you needed me
You grey younger as we grew old
The world grew strangers.. bought and sold.
Said you died and left you out in the cold.”
  • Seasons Under my Bed by Tom Rosenthal & Alex Brenchley – male vocals
Lyrics go: “I’ve got treetops under my head. I’ve got seasons under my bed. I’ve got troubles in the night-time troubles in the day-time too. Oooo.. I’v got sand dunes in between my toes, I’ve got hilltops shadowing my woes. I’ve got troubles in the nighttime, troubles in the daytime too.”

Oh it’s coming soon, like the spinning of the moon, in truth it is already happening. Think back to the start when we sang with bolder hearts and the darkness wasn’t even borhering. Overcoming Fear of Failure

Failure is part of the path to success - Mistakes Are Proof You Are Trying Poster Often the thing that’s stopping us from following our dreams and doing something we really want to do is a fear of: “What if I fail? What if I put all this time and effort and money into it, and it’s all a waste? What if I everyone knows I’m a failure? It will be so humiliating.. It’s safer just not to even try…”

How do you overcome these kind of thoughts?

Well, you’re right: there is no guarantee that the first time you do something that you’ll definitely succeed. But if it’s the first time you’re doing something, isn’t it a bit of a big ask to expect yourself to get it right first time?

When a baby is learning to walk, does it just start walking smoothly straight away? No! A baby allows itself to try, try and try again. It learns from the early wobbles; learns ho to adjust and re-balance until after practising for a while, despite all the early wobbles and falls eventually a baby learns to walk – and even run! Failure isn’t a problem; failure is literally part of the learning process. Failure is part of the process of becoming a success.

You Got This girly floral encouraging encouragement motivational Poster What is failure really? It’s just the wobbles at the beginning of your learning process as you learn to walk this new path. Once you start TRYING, only then can you get a feel for how to course-correct, but you have to start if you want to succeed.

If you don’t even try, you can never succeed. Sure, you’ll be safe in that you don’t experience failure in that field… But if you don’t even try going for your dream, what will you be doing instead? Something you don’t really want to do? And you’ll always have that “What if…?” hanging over you? What’s the point in that when you can try to do something you REALLY want to do?

You Can Do It orange Motivational Poster If you try following your dream, you may not succeed right away, but the more you practise and go for it and persist – the further along you are on your journey towards success, and the more likely you are to succeed. With every attempt you grow wiser and learn more and more. If you’re committed and determined, you will see success eventually – it’s just a matter of time. Look for a way until you find a way.

Put aside all your limiting beliefs, and put aside all the things nay-sayers are saying – don’t listen to them. Just say: “I don’t care what anyone says, I’m gonna do this; I’m gonna figure it out; I know that there’s a way to figure it out”.

Just decide: I don’t care how many times I fail before I succeed – I’m gonna do this.

Success is slowly moving towards something that we really want and love. So choose what you want and start moving towards it!

How to start following your dreams? Just take the first step!

How to start following your dreams - how to begin to pursue your dreams and start something big We all have dreams. For some it’s wanting to learn to play a musical instrument, or learn a new language; for others it’s opening a business or being a successful artist.

But there’s a big difference between a desire, a hope, or a dream to do something, and really doing something. And the difference is wanting something enough to feel ready to take action.

Whatever your dream is, the starting point of how to begin the journey of making that dream into a reality all starts from the same place: It comes from a decision to just go for it.

Live Your Dream Poster So how do you start following your dream?
Go all in. Make that commitment to yourself and say: Yes! I am just going to do this! I’m going to take action and take the first step in the direction of this dream. Even if it is the first step of many many steps, every journey starts with a single step.

If you’ve learned how to swim and always look up at the high diving board dreaming of what it would be like to jump off it; stop overthinking it and just go for it! You’ve climbed up the high diving board and looked off the edge of it, wondering if you should jump or not for long enough. Just jump. You know how to swim; you have and know everything you need to know in order to survive the jump. So allow yourself to enjoy the exhilaration of doing something exciting that makes you feel alive and brave. Allow yourself to make your dreams come true. Allow yourself to just go for it!

Chronic Boredom: How to stop being Bored according to Abraham Hicks

“A feeling of Lethargy or Boredom, indicates a very little focused desire in the moment.” – Abraham Hicks (Source)

To stop being bored, it isn’t about being so busy that you forget to be bored. It isn’t about picking any old thing to do just to fill your time. Yes, it is true that any kind of movement *is* better than stagnation, and once you’re moving, it is easier to steer. But if you just fill your time with not-that-feel-good busy-work, you feel better… for a while… whilst you’re doing the task, but the second you stop doing the busy-work, you’re back to square 1 of feeling bored because you never addressed the core issue.

If you don’t have any clear desires to focus upon, the best thing you can do is just go general about trying to feel good – and from the high vibration place of feeling good; from there, inspiration for stronger desires may rendezvous with you.

If you’re bored, it simply means that you’re currently not practising enough activities and thoughts that have you feeling aligned with feeling better than how you’re currently feeling. When you do practice alignment, when you get to a place of feeling good and “being in the Vortex”, from here you will receive inspiration for desires and dreams that will help you find the next step of what to do in life.

So how do you practise alignment?

1.) Practise pivoting negative thoughts.

The thoughts that are telling you that you are stuck, or that you don’t have desire, these very thoughts are what keep you stuck. Focus on something only makes us hear it louder; it amplifies it and makes it worse. So start pivoting these unhelpful thoughts to uplift yourself to a better place.

Example starting place:
“I’m bored and don’t know what to do.”

The pivot:
“I know that there are some thing I do enjoy seeing/ doing.
I enjoy visiting, exploring and seeing beautiful places – particularly new ones.
I enjoy seeing new places I’ve never been to, even in my local area.
I enjoy walking out in nature and feeling the fresh breeze on my skin.
I enjoy tasting delicious new foods and trying out new restaurants – and there are so many still to try out there in the world!
I enjoy discovering and learning about new things and discovering how they can improve my life.
I enjoy doing things that make me feel like I’m contributing something valuable and am making a positive difference to the world in some way.”
etc etc.

2.) Practise some of the activities you know are aligning for you.

We all know that some things tend to uplift us or get us in a better mood. It may be chatting with a friend, it may be going for a walk in the mountainside, it may be riding your bike, it may be cuddling up with a pet. Whatever it is, doing more of these things will help you get into a higher-vibration place where inspiration is more likely to come to you with all sorts of ideas of things you’d like to do next.

3.) Practice the belief that there *are* things out there for you

There is SO much in our world to see and do and experience that we can never do it all even in one lifetime, so there will always be desire and inspiration. The world is constantly changing with new opportunities arising, new things to see and do and feel. You can never run out of things to do, and new desires and dreams simply HAVE to arise from this world where there is so much for you to desire and dream about. Desire cannot run out – ever!

It’s just a matter of getting into the state of mind where you’re receiving desires and inspiration, rather than sitting with the focus on the fact that desire and inspiration isn’t here yet.

4.) Focus on a desire, no matter how small (or big!)

Stop focusing on what you don’t have, and start paying more attention to the desires that you *do* have in your life, no matter how small or big.

Focus on your desires will amplify the vibration of that desire, and before you know it, either that desire will grow, or you will rendez-vous with more things that are aligned with that vibration of desire. New desires will be born, and in time you can have desire after desire; so many desires and ideas for what you’d like to do with your time, that boredom will be but a distant memory!

Gifts for the Blind – Braille T-shirts

As someone who designs t-shirts as part of my job, I recently noticed that Amazon didn’t have a whole lot of Braille t-shirts on sale, so I went to work on making some braille t shirt designs.
